How do I find out what someone paid for a house and how much is owed and to whom on a property?

Author: admin  //  Category: franklin mortgage

I am looking to buy a house. How do I look up what they paid for it and how much is still owed on the property and to whom?

many countys have their county assessor office online, google whatever county you want for example google "franklin county iowa online assessor" you’ll need there name or address. I live in iowa and i can go to iowalandrecords.org and see what the mortgage was and with who and when, maybe your state has something like that too. you;ll only be able to see the original loan amount thought, no way of telling whats owed, that is confidential

You need to visit your county’s register of land deeds/land office. There you will be able to find out who has a mortgage lien on the house. They may or may not retain records relative to the sale price. The amount outstanding on the mortgage is confidential information. You won’t get that anywhere.
